A bright new day for NTID's Sunshine 2.0
RIT/NTID alumnus Fred Michael Beam finds connections where others may not. As the coordinator of RIT/NTID’s traveling performance troupe Sunshine 2.0, Beam connects performing arts and science, technology, engineering and math—or STEM—themes, for deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing children and adults around the country.

End of presidential era
Under Bill Destler’s leadership, RIT’s enrollment has reached record levels, selectivity and diversity have improved, the value of research awards has skyrocketed and geographic draw continues to widen. But his strong relationship with students is the key piece of his legacy. -

A segment on WXXI’s Arts InFocus featuring RIT’s Joseph F. and Helen C. Dyer Arts Center at NTID has won a bronze Telly Award, which recognizes distinction in local, regional and cable TV programs and commercials, as well as video and film productions. -

Todd Pagano, professor of chemistry and associate dean for Teaching and Scholarship Excellence at NTID, was the first faculty member from RIT—and the first U.S. scientist—to participate in the Excellence in Analytical CHemistry (EACH) program. -

NTID to offer degree in 3-D graphics technology
NTID has been granted approval by the New York State Education Department to establish a new degree program in 3-D graphics technology. Beginning this fall, RIT/NTID will become the first college to offer this kind of associate degree program to deaf and hard-of-hearing students. -

“Deaf Way, Her Way,” a retrospective of the work of internationally known artist Ann Silver, runs March 3 through April 22. Silver, who was born deaf, is a founding member of the historic Deaf Art Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. -
