As a teenager growing up, Edwin N. Torres remembers traveling and becoming “fascinated by the possibility of hoteliers transforming a place into an experience.” That curiosity later developed into a passion, which Torres brought to RIT in July when he became chair and associate professor for the Department of International Hospitality and Service Innovation at Saunders College of Business.

RIT has appointed two new members to its board of trustees: Britta MacIntosh ’89 (mechanical engineering) and Richard “Chip” Davis.

It is a powerful thing to redirect a 525-foot asteroid with a spacecraft moving at 14,000 mph, and Dmitriy Bekker ’07 BS/MS (computer engineering) was one of the engineers who made it happen.

RIT is vying to be the first university to develop and have a game character accepted into the wildly popular online game Dota 2. The character, or courier, in the form of a tiger, was developed in MAGIC Spell Studios by a team of former RIT students and a faculty adviser.

Three students and one alumnus from RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences took home 12 awards from the annual College Photographer of the Year competition—including the top placement of College Photographer of the Year.

An early sunset didn’t deter the large crowd gathered at the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House and the surrounding neighborhood for the RIT Big Shot on Sunday. The community came together to shine a light on voting rights and equal rights as part of the annual photography project hosted by RIT.

A gift from the Marie Golisano Graham Fund is supporting new ways for RIT to engage the public with the life and legacy of her brother, B. Thomas Golisano—Paychex founder, philanthropist, and civic leader.

This fall, Rebecca Oesterle ’09 MS (packaging science) was one of four industry leaders inducted into the Packaging and Processing Hall of Fame, for contributions to the industry and education over her 40 plus-year career at Energizer, and at Just Born Quality Confections.

A visit to Constellation Energy’s R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario, New York was part of Santosh Kurinec’s teaching plan so that engineering students apply what they learn in the classroom to the world of industry.
