Though this might sound like a cliche, at RIT Croatia we like sharing knowledge and learning from one another. In order to do so, we organize Science and Research seminars (thank you Dr. Tabak!) where our community has an opportunity to learn about different fields (from philosophy to mathematics and blockchain technology!), usually from our Faculty.

Well, this time, we were really proud to present our first student seminar talk (actually alumni J). Mateo Sokač (Class of 2017, Information Technology program) visited our Zagreb campus on October 19th and talked about one of the hot topics today: Bioinformatics Big Data - Machine Learning. Mateo said his passion towards biology (medicine) and technology drove him to Aarhus, Denmark where he started his Masters degree in field of Bioinformatics. He is now working there as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant.

Mateo talked about the big data and his seminar generated a big interest at RIT Croatia: "We are in the era of Big Data, where data is generated every day and it is growing. Since computing power is exponentially growing, we can use data and information from the past in order to learn something for the future events. Big data source that I am focused on can be found in, DNA/RNA sequences, medical images, different medical tools and others... Using this approach and focusing on those fields and measures we are entering in the world of Bioinformatics and personalized medicine. Both of those fields are very interdisciplinary oriented, and people are needed from all sectors. "
