RIT Croatia sponsors yet another great Javantura conference!

The 6th International Java Community Conference in Croatia, Javantura v6 (https://javantura.org/), was organized on Saturday, February 23rd, in Hotel Panorama in Zagreb. In the last six years, Javantura became one of the largest and most significant international software development and Java-related community-driven conferences in this part of Europe, built on a lot of enthusiasm and volunteering from Croatian Java User Association (HUJAK) members, under the slogan organized by the community for the community.

HUJAK intended to gather the majority of the Java community in Croatia and from the region, but also to welcome speakers and attendees from other countries, and this year more than 300 attendees were listening to 28 interesting sessions delivered by 8 international, 26 domestic speakers, and 5 panelists. Since 2012 HUJAK organized six great Javantura conferences, seven successful JavaCro conferences, and numerous other meetups and workshops, as well as supported or helped in the organization of various other software development conferences in the region such as HrOUG and WebCamp.

For the 4th time, RIT Croatia is an educational sponsor of Javantura conference, and many of our faculty members, as well as our IT/WMC students, were involved. Dr. Branko Mihaljević, acting also as the President of HUJAK for seven years, and Aleksander Radovan, the President of the educational board at HUJAK, together with Dr. Martin Žagar, were all a part of the organization of Javantura v6 conference, and Dr. Kristina Marasović joined them as one of the members of the Program Committee.

Moreover, this year four of our students were selected as speakers at the conference and held presentations. Under the mentorship of Dr. Mihaljević and based on the research of GraalVM and garbage collectors in Java programming language, our students Matija Šipek and Paula Pufek delivered a joint session with the title "On the Aspects of Polyglot Programming and Memory Management in a VM - GraalVM and Contemporary GCs." Following the research of neural networks under the mentorship of Aleksander Radovan, our students Vjori Hoxha andIvor Barić held a presentation about "Predicting future using Java and neural networks."

Additionally, more than fifteen of our students and alumni attended the conference, including the great last's year speakers Leo Bach and Hrvoje Grgić, and this was also an excellent opportunity to broaden RIT Croatia relationships with IT and software development companies in Croatia, mostly focusing on co-ops, student projects and research collaboration, as well as to present our new MS IT program.
