American Painting

A survey of the style and meaning in American paintings from the colonial limners, through the 19th and 20th centuries, to contemporary artists. It centers on what distinguishes painting of the colonies and of the United States from the European counterpart.

This course will focus on traditional or contemporary processes, techniques, media or materials used in the creation of artwork. Topic will be determined by faculty teaching the course. A topic course description will be published each term the course is offered. This course can be retaken but individual topics may not.

Introduction to Visual Arts
3 Credits
This course will develop students' ability in perceiving worth in objects of art through consideration of fundamental concepts in painting, sculpture and architecture, involving analysis, interpretation and principles of aesthetics.
