Introduction
The ITS, or Information Technology Services, manages the campus computing infrastructure and provides IT support to the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) community. We are responsible for the campus network, administrative computing, academic computing, and other technology-related services. We provide hardware, software, and network support to the students, faculty, and staff.
Computer Facilities
RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Computer Labs
Currently, there are six computer labs at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K). Two computer labs are equipped with high end desktops and workstations and serve for media related courses, IBT, GIS among common desktop and office applications. Four other PC labs are dedicated to Training and development Institute professional IT related trainings. All computers are connected to internet.
RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) “Smart” Classrooms
Each classroom is equipped with a computer with internet connection, sound speakers and a video projector or big screen LCD TV. Instructors use this tool to bring current, technical and constantly changing information directly to the students. In turn, the students become proficient at using this state of the art equipment for in class presentations – a valuable skill for future employment.
Mobile Computing – Laptop Computers
As part of our vision for modern education, in which technology plays a crucial role, RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) has introduced the Notebook Program for every full-time undergraduate student. RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is the first university in the region to issue a notebook computer to each student for his or her entire, four year education. This conforms to our idea of anytime/anywhere learning.
The RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Campus is fully covered with a wireless network that offers the entire RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) community, and its guests, 24 hour, 7 day access to the internet.
Printing
There are laser printers available to students, 2 on the second floor, and one in third floor and one in Library. Every student has his/her own printing account which they fill and charge in advance. The printing charge is 3.5 euro cents per page. Payments to refill accounts can be made at the IT Office.
Borrowing Equipment
Students can borrow media technology equipment on a short-term loan basis for any academic activity. Request for equipment should be made in the Media Center Office located on the second floor. This equipment includes:
- Cameras
- Tripods
- Digital picture camera
- Video projector
- Use of MAC Pro Computers in Media Lab for advanced photo and video editing projects
- Use of sound equipment in Media Lab for advanced sound editing projects

3D Printing Services
RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) provides 3D printing services, in its R&D Lab, with the mission to provide the tools for academic or professional advancement to its students, staff, professors and other related stakeholders.
Who can print 3D objects at the R&D Lab?
- RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) students
- RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) faculty
- RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) staff
- KosLift students
3D objects will be printed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Priority will be given to students that have academic requirements for 3D printed objects and that their grade could be affected in their current course. Because of staff and device constrains, there is no guarantee for the delivery time of the printed objects, however generally a three day period wait should be expected before the object is ready.
What cannot be printed at the R&D Lab of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)?
Models that may result in legal action against RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), its employees, students and other related stakeholders, will not be printed in the R&D Lab.
In addition, models that may infringe intellectual property, including:
- Copyright items
- Patent items
- Trademark items
- Registered designs
- Other proprietary objects
will not be allowed to be 3D printed in the R&D Lab.
Additionally, any object that belongs to any of the following categories will not be printed:
- Pornographic nature
- Illegal objects
- Obscene or offensive
- Dangerous to others
Each individual is allowed to print maximum 5 objects within a month period, and no mass printing is provided. If you have more specific questions about 3D printing, you can visit the R&D Lab for consultations.
3D Printing charges
In order to support continuous 3D printing at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) for the students and staff and academics, the institution needs to charge a small fee for the objects printed. This will allow future maintenance of the devices and 3D printers, purchase of 3D printing related materials and overall proper functioning of the service.
There are two types of 3D printers at R&D Lab:
- 2 X MakerBot Replicator + (https://www.makerbot.com/3d-printers/replicator/)
- 1 MakerBot Replicator
- 3 X FARA 3D printer
These use different types of filaments (the plastic that is melted and used to produce the objects), therefore prices are according to the costs related to each type of printer. After the printing is completed, the final object will be measured, and the charge will be calculated accordingly.
See below the specifications:
Printer | Price per 10 grams | Price per 10 grams diverse colors |
Maximum print size | Availability |
MakerBot Replicator + | 1.5 EUR | 2 EUR | 29.5 x 19.5 x 16.5 cm | Available |
FARA | 0.75 EUR | 1.25 EUR | 20 x 20 x 15 cm | Available |
Failure to pick up the printed object within two weeks of printing will result in the cost being added up for every additional day: 1 EUR per day. After 6 months of not picking up the object, the R&D Lab does not take any responsibility for discharging the printed objects.
Important considerations
The 3D printers at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) have certain limitations which need to be considered before planning to print:
- 3D models have to be in .stl, .obj or .makerbot (only for MakerBot printers) formats
- The models cannot be designed by the staff in the R&D Lab; clients need to have their designs ready for printing
- Only PLA filaments are available for printing
- The following colors are available for 3D printing: red, black, white, gray, green, orange, yellow, purple, dark blue, brown (the list updated based on the colors in stock).
- 3D printing service is designed only for prototyping, not production. Therefore, no jobs printing large numbers of identical objects will be accepted
- All 3D models will be printed by the R&D Lab staff
- Failed prints due to errors within the 3D model will still be charged for materials used
- Failed prints due to R&D Lab staff error or hardware failure of the 3D printer will not be charged
