PeaceTech, a digital pathway to peace in Kosovo?
RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) students presented the results of a Pilot PeaceTech Survey (Phase I) as part of their Capstone project in collaboration with 2022-23 US Fulbright Scholar Dr. Marcia Byrom Hartwell.
In this survey Kosovo organizations Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR), New Social Initiative (NSI), Community Building Mitrovica (CBM), and the Jahjaga Foundation (JF) were asked for their views on using digital technologies to build peace. They were selected for their focus on bridging community divides, youth, and gender.
RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Capstone students shared that what emerged from their survey was an under-told story of online and offline peacebuilding and long-term collaborations between organizations, individuals, and groups navigating high tension areas such as Mitrovica. One student, a native of Mitrovica, provided original video and area photos of often ignored positive images to the presentation.
The audience and students remarked on how they had gained a deeper understanding of the ongoing efforts of peacebuilding organizations in Mitrovica and Kosovo and a new appreciation for the role that PeaceTech’s range of digital technologies could play to support this important work. A second PeaceTech Survey led by Hartwell and RIT students will expand upon these results for Phase II in Spring 2023.
