RIT Kosovo Student Experiences Finnish Culture During Transformative Study Exchange

Prishtina, Kosovo – January 20, 2025

Genta Sadiku, an International Exchange Student as part of the ERASMUS+ program from RIT Kosovo pursuing Economics & Statistics and Management & Entrepreneurship, recently completed an exchange semester at HAMK University in Finland. Her five-month journey was an eye-opening adventure that highlighted the beauty of Finnish culture, people, and traditions.

One of the most memorable experiences for Genta was celebrating Vappu, Finland’s vibrant spring festival. “Vappu is a celebration like no other,” she shared. “It’s a joyful time when students wear colorful overalls representing their fields of study and come together for scavenger hunts, parades, and picnics that last over 24 hours. It’s incredible to see Finns shed their reserved nature and embrace the fun, welcoming everyone to join in.”

The festivities include a symbolic moment in Helsinki where a student cap is placed on the iconic Havis Amanda statue, marking the end of the school year. For Genta, this cultural immersion offered an unforgettable glimpse into the Finnish way of life.

In addition to Vappu, Genta cherished Finland’s natural beauty, including witnessing the northern lights from her apartment. Reflecting on her exchange, she said, “This experience has deepened my appreciation for diverse cultures and opened my eyes to new perspectives. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
