Bio

Elizabeth Gowing studied English Language and Literature at Magdalen College, Oxford, before training to be a teacher and working in education in London for a decade. She moved to Kosovo in 2006 and is the co-founder of Kosovan NGO, The Ideas Partnership.

She has published five books about her work and travels in the Balkans, and has given more than 300 lectures to groups in the UK about her work in Kosovo, as well as being a regular reporter from the Balkans on the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 4. She is a board member of Albanian fact-checking NGO, Faktoje, and with her partner, Robert Wilton, she also hosts the podcast, A Coffee in the Accursed Mountains, sharing stories of life and culture in Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro.

Since 2019 she has worked as a consultant supporting non-profit organisations around the world in telling the story of their work.

 In 2021 Prime Minister Albin Kurti appointed her his adviser on non-majority community affairs.

The public speaking course is designed to equip the student with knowledge of the theories and principles necessary for formal public speaking. Informative and persuasive speeches are the focus with emphasis on organization, evidence, language use, strategy, delivery, and effective use of media aids. Public speaking is generally offered each semester.
