Bio
Janet Reineck is an anthropologist and humanitarian aid worker from Santa Barbara, California, who lived in Kosovo for eight years before the war. In the 1980s, as a Fulbright scholar, she conducted research for a Master’s degree in Ethnology at UCLA and for a Doctorate in Anthropology at UC Berkeley, focusing on Albanian traditions, social structure and worldview.
In the 1990s, Janet returned to Kosovo to direct humanitarian aid projects for Oxfam and International Rescue Committee. Her work included school renovations (mediating between Albanians and Serbians), advocating for girls’ education and health education for women, and promoting civil society in a time of oppression and fear.
After forty years, Janet has returned to Kosovo, using her extensive involvement in Kosovo to be part of its transformation and evolution as a country.
