RIT student Shawn Liu is being recognized at the 2019 Game Developers Conference for creating an extraordinary video game that challenges players to finish a maze using Windows keyboard shortcuts.

More than 100 RIT students, faculty, alumni and staff are visiting San Francisco this week to attend Game Developers Conference 2019, the world’s largest professional gaming industry event of the year. The RIT MAGIC Spell Studios booth is displaying four games created at RIT.

RIT again boasts some of the top programs in the world to study game design, according to the latest international rankings from The Princeton Review. RIT’s game design and development program was ranked eighth at the undergraduate level and seventh at the graduate level on the 2019 list.

RIT’s MAGIC Spell Studios opened the doors to its new home this fall, inviting students, faculty and industry professionals to experience a digital media development and publishing learning laboratory never before seen in the Northeast.

The interdisciplinary team of RIT faculty and student researchers, designers and developers that created the Lost & Found tabletop game is getting recognition for its design. Throughout the year, the game has been featured at several showcases for independent and serious games.

Ten RIT students got to begin their summer vacation in Japan, immersing themselves in a new culture and learning about the world’s third largest video game market.

RIT is securing its legacy as one of the best colleges in esports after winning its first Collegiate Starleague Dota 2 Grand Finals Championship April 28. The student team bested a bracket of North America’s 32 top universities to take home the $10,000 grand prize.

Teams from RIT won first and second place in the student category of the second annual New York State Game Development Challenge, hosted by RIT’s MAGIC Center and sponsored by Empire State Development.
