Independent comic artists Chris Onstad (left) and Nick Gurewitch, offered a dynamic and interactive dialogue on the origin and creation of their comic strip art on Feb. 10 as part of the Caroline Werner Gannett Project’s Visionaries in Motion III series. Using a cache of props and symbols, the artists delighted the audience with lively activities, including Onstad’s Q-and-A raffle of vintage memorabilia from his comic strip series Achewood.

These popcorn package concepts “popped to the top” for moviegoers at the Little Theatre. The center package by Alexia Georgiou, fourth-year graphic design student, received the most votes. Second place honors went to a package designed by Adam Hasenauer (left) and Yen-Wei Lee’s concept rounded out the top three. The students developed popcorn package designs as part of their Packaging Design course with Lorrie Frear. Alexia won a one-year student membership to the Little Theatre.

RIT forward Sarah Dagg hit 100 career points in women’s hockey on Feb. 7 when the team defeated Chatham 7-1. Dagg, a third-year student, became the seventh player in the history of RIT women’s hockey to reach this goal.

RIT’s Campus Center was formally dedicated Feb. 6 as part of the campus Freeze Fest extravaganza. The 30,000-plus-square-foot Campus Center located across from Clark Gymnasium, with alternate access from inside the Student Alumni Union, is characterized by curved windows and comfortable seating areas. Administrators hope the space will become a central location where students can meet and socialize.

Volunteers from the Center for Religious Life coordinated their annual PB Jam Feb. 8. Nearly 2,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were made during the 4-hour event. Following the preparation, the sandwiches were delivered to the Salvation Army, Open Door Mission, AIDS Rochester and the House of Mercy for distribution to Rochester’s needy.

Comedienne Kathy Griffin made her way from the “D-List” to RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center to headline the first FreezeFest on Feb. 5.

RIT’s Center for Campus Life and Division of Student Affairs are hosting the first FreezeFest celebration on campus, Feb. 5-7. Students handed out T-shirts in the SAU to kick off the weekend festivities.

Zachary Shivers and Ziyan Zhou of the RIT Robotics Club created a wireless door lock for fun in their spare time. The new device differs from current electrical door lock systems because it is attached to their wristwatches.

As part of a community service project, First-Year Enrichment students enrolled in the University Studies Program set up a table in the Student Alumni Union to decorate valentines. Students, faculty and staff could sign and decorate the cards for children at the Golisano Children’s Hospital.
