Student competitors and distinctive robots came together at RIT for the 2010 Finger Lakes Regional FIRST Robotics competition March 5-6. High school teams from across the northeast participated in Breakaway, this season’s exciting new game.

Students from Livonia High School visited RIT Feb. 15 to learn more about global information systems and the role this technology plays in disaster management. Bethany Choate, from the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, gave an overview of the career opportunities in imaging science.

The Biophysical Journal recently published an abstract on its Web site highlighting research conducted, in part, by Mohammed Mostajo Radji, a third-year biotechnology major, through the RIT-UR Summer Undergraduate Research Exchange Program. Lead author Ryan Loy ’05 (biotechnology), a doctoral candidate in pharmacology and physiology at University of Rochester, presented a poster about their research on genetic muscular disease Feb. 24 at the annual meeting of the Biophysical Society in San Francisco.

The first RIT-sponsored Habitat for Humanity home—a sustainable house—was officially dedicated at a ceremony Feb. 20 at 167 Whitney St. Jeffrey Hering, RIT’s director for the Center for Religious Life, gave a closing blessing at the event. Hering also served as an advisor to the RIT Habitat for Humanity group.

The first RIT-sponsored Habitat for Humanity home—a sustainable house—was officially dedicated at a ceremony Feb. 20 at 167 Whitney St. The new homeowner, April Randall, was on hand for the ceremony, as well as RIT President Bill Destler, student volunteers, and members of the Rochester community.

A photographic exhibition by Omobowale Ayorinde is on view at the Joseph F. and Helen C. Dyer Arts Center at NTID through Feb. 26.

The Rochester community will join RIT’s Habitat for Humanity student club, along with volunteers from Flower City Habitat for Humanity, for the dedication of the first RIT-sponsored Habitat house at 11 a.m. Feb. 20 at 167 Whitney St. April Randall, the soon-to-be-homeowner, will be living in a home with many sustainable features, including a tankless hot water heater and an energy-efficient furnace.
