Michela Musolino from Terra Sangue Mare (Earth Blood Sea) teaches RIT students traditional Sicilian folk dances in a workshop Sept. 22. Terra Sangue Mare later performed a music and dance concert sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts’ Italian Program SEE-cily Series.

RIT kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 21 with food, music and dance in Global Village Plaza. The event is sponsored by the Office for Diversity and Inclusion and Center for Campus Life.

The 32nd RIT Big Shot illuminated the iconic Kodak Tower on Sept. 18. Nearly 3,000 volunteers provided the primary light source for a 60-second exposure at f14, ISO 50.

RIT students Greg Schmidt, on left, and Noah Blakenship participated in Mud Tug on Sept. 17. In the annual event hosted by Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, teams of 10 compete in a tug of war tournament over pits of mud behind Grace Watson Hall. Money raised goes to Hillside Family of Agencies and the MLD Foundation.

Paige Belfield, left, a second-year School of Individualized Study student from Boston, and Renee Hutton, a second-year university studies student from New York City, talked to representatives from various organizations in the Rochester area about volunteer opportunities during the Community Service Fair on Sept. 15. Nearly 30 agencies participated in the fair.

Jordan Guerrieri, a third-year advertising and public relations student from Rochester, stopped to buy some fresh corn while walking yorkipoo Maverick. The market in Global Village Plaza on Sept. 13 featured local produce, eggs, bread, honey products from the RIT Bee Keepers Club, chair massages and a live calf onsite. The next market dates are Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and Oct. 25.

RIT was honored to be at the 2016 Global University Presidents Summit held on the BJTU campus, sharing student success in interdisciplinary entrepreneurship and technological innovation with more than 100 participants from 37 universities representing 14 countries. This fall, 220 undergraduate students began class in the RIT-BJTU joint degree program in management information systems at the BJTU Weihai campus. RIT also welcomed a new cohort of 18 students in the joint graduate degree program in entrepreneurship and innovative ventures at the BJTU Beijing campus.

Wendell Castle attended an opening reception for his current exhibit. Castle, who is widely recognized as the “father of the art furniture movement,” is exhibiting a wide variety of drawings, maquettes and select sculptural and dimensional work inside RIT’s University Gallery through Nov. 11. This marks the first-ever exhibition to focus on Castle’s creative process, providing evidence of how he conceives and creates.

Customers peruse a selection of books published by RIT Press at the 44th Annual Rochester Antiquarian Book Fair held on Sept. 10. RIT Press, the Institute’s scholarly book publishing enterprise, is co-sponsor for the Book Fair, the longest running regional book fair in the nation.
