The ideal candidate will be passionate to make math exciting for students to learn. To make math fun and relatable. They understand
that not everyone loves math right away, so they work hard to help you see the cool side of it. They show how math is used in everyday life, like calculating discounts when shopping or measuring ingredients for a recipe. They know that one size doesn’t fit all. They can remember a time learning something new in math, but it’s not clicking. Realizing everyone learns at different levels and speeds. They find a different way to explain, a new example, or maybe even a fun math game to make it all make sense.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Deaf Education or a related field (Math) required. Master’s Degree preferred.
Possession of or eligibility to obtain permit or certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
American Sign Language proficiency required
Experience working with Deaf children, preferably older High School students
Understanding of and support for an exploratory, experiential approach to teaching and learning. Experience with an interdisciplinary curriculum.
Understanding and knowledge of normal child growth and development.
Understanding of and experience with a culturally diverse population.
Experience working as a member of an instructional team is preferred
