Bio
Emily Gilster-Call, NIC, is a two-time graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where she earned a Bachelor's degree in ASL-English Interpreting in 2014 and a Master's in Management in 2020. She began working with the Department of Access Services as a student worker in 2012, and after graduating in 2014, she joined the Interpreting Apprentice Program. Through this experience, Emily gained firsthand insight into how impactful a supportive community and mentorship can be in shaping a new interpreter's career.
In 2015, Emily was hired as staff and, driven by a desire to give back, began mentoring new interpreters in 2017. She became the program coordinator for the Interpreting Apprenticeship in 2023 and is truly passionate about supporting new interpreters as they transition from school to professional practice. Emily is excited to continue guiding the next generation of interpreters, just as her mentors did for her.
