NMTH-140
Mathematics in Society
3 Credits
This project-based course is intended for students interested in the exploration of mathematical thinking and procedures. It includes applications to real world situations and uses problem solving skills. Topics include number sense, consumer mathematics, introduction to statistics, basic geometry, and units of measurement including conversion in English and metric systems.
NMTH-180
Foundations of Algebra
3 Credits
An introductory algebra course consisting of a blended lecture/lab component in which the basics of evaluating algebraic expressions, solving linear equations and inequalities and graphing linear functions are studied. The Pythagorean Theorem and systems of linear equations are also studied. Students cannot earn credit for both NMTH-180 and NMTH-245.
NMTH-212
Integrated Algebra
3 Credits
An intermediate algebra course consisting of a blended lecture/lab component in which non-linear functions and graphs, systems of linear equations, exponents, polynomials, roots, radicals and properties of the complex numbers are considered. There is significant emphasis on scientific and geometric models, as well as the use of graphing utilities. Students cannot earn credit for both NMTH-210 and NMTH-212.
NMTH-275
Advanced Mathematics
3 Credits
Topics from precalculus mathematics are studied with an emphasis on functions and graphs. Topics include the algebra of functions and the study of inverse functions. Rational, exponential, logarithmic and piecewise-defined functions are among those studied. Students, who earn credit for NMTH-275, cannot take NMTH-260 or NMTH-272.
