RIT/NTID Lyon Lectureship Series welcomes Oscar winner Troy Kotsur

Academy Award-winning actor Troy Kotsur will share stories of his life as RIT/NTID’s annual Edmund Lyon Memorial Lectureship Series presenter 6:30 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Robert F. Panara Theater in Lyndon Baines Johnson Hall on the RIT campus.

Kotsur’s lecture will reflect on his remarkable acting career and share his journey from his early days as a member of NTID’s Sunshine Too traveling theater troupe to winning a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 2022 for his role as Frank Rossi, a deaf fisherman, in the movie “CODA.” Attendees will also watch a short film, “To My Father,” about the influence of Kotsur’s father on his life.

Kotsur, who was a member of RIT/NTID’s traveling performance troupe Sunshine Too! from 1990-1991, is the first deaf male and the only second deaf actor to win an Oscar. The first, was Marlee Matlin, Kotsur’s “CODA” co-star, who won the Best Actress award in 1987 for her role in “Children of a Lesser God.”
