Research Interest:
Psychophysiology and neuropsychology of substance use

Broadly, my research focuses on biological underpinnings, risk factors, and treatment response for behaviors/disorders characterized by a lack of impulse control (e.g., aggression, substance use, personality disorder). Most recently my work has involved multi-method examinations of impulse control in college students with a history of binge drinking and associated behaviors. The primary methodologies used in my lab are event-related brain potentials (ERPs) and neuropsychological testing (e.g., measures of executive functioning). I have also been studying the application of heart rate variability biofeedback for improvements in health outcomes in substance using individuals.

Number of student(s) that typically work in my lab at any given time:
It may vary depending on current projects, but usually 3-5 undergraduates and 1-2 master’s level students.

Mentoring Record – All Undergraduate Students:

  1. the number of students training under my supervision: 6 current undergraduates (4 senior project students plus 2 research volunteers)
  2. the number of undergraduate mentees who were awarded their Bachelor’s degree during the last 10 years): about 20 (at my prior institution)
  3. the number of undergraduates who entered doctoral (biomedical or behavioral or clinical PhD or combined-PhD) degree programs during the last 10 years): 11
