The key to effective intervention is competent and thorough assessment. We focus on spoken English assessment, including segmental and suprasegmental aspects of speech, as well as the phonological, semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic/social components.
Our goal is to assess how successfully an individual communicates face to face in educational, social, and professional contexts.
Assessment methods include: perceptual, acoustic, and linguistic analyses of spoken utterances, self-reports of communication effectiveness and confidence, and exploration of the pragmatic/social dimensions of communication.
