Tiger Sharks is an exciting hands-on ocean-life exploration and marine biology program that will be offered at SEACAMP in San Diego, California.
There are sessions for deaf and hard-of-hearing middle and high school students interested in science technology engineering and math (STEM). Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf is partnering with SEACAMP to provide this program, which includes a variety of daytime and evening activities, such as snorkeling, shark labs, astronomy nights, climbing walls, and more.
Program Information
Tiger Sharks is for middle and high school students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Students should have strong academic skills and an interest in STEM topics and marine biology.
October 11-13, 2024
Available to both Middle and High School Students.
Tiger Sharks is offered at no cost for all qualifying students!
Tiger Sharks will be held at SeaCAMP in San Diego, California. Arrival time at the site is between 5pm-6pm. For those who are driving you can drop your child off at the campsite. For those flying, arrival will be into the San Diego International airport where SEACAMP staff along with a member of the RIT/NTID staff will meet and transport you to their facility.

On arrival day, during the program, students will share a room with other program participants at SEACAMP facilities. Meals will be provided at the cafeteria for the duration of the program. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions prior to the program.
All Tiger Sharks activities are conducted by a team of NTID staff, SEACAMP staff, and chaperones. All students will be under staff supervision for the duration of the program.

Requirements
To be eligible to participate in Tiger Sharks, students must:
- Be deaf or hard-of-hearing
- Attend and participate in all activities and discussions
- Middle school session: For students entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in fall 2024
- High school session: For students entering 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in fall 2024

Application Process
For us to consider your application, you need to submit the application along with two required documents below:
- An official copy of your school transcript
- A copy of your unaided audiogram (results without hearing aid or cochlear implant)
When you register, you also need to submit the following forms along with your registration:
- SEACAMP Health Information form
- SEACAMP Participation/Release form
- SEACAMP Immunization form
- SEACAMP Transportation Plan
- RIT talent release form
