Collaborative Design | Semester GRDE 401

Class Description
This course offers students the opportunity and challenge of working on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams to create professional level projects, which are collaborative, competitive and cooperative in structure and implementation. The content of the course will vary depending upon faculty expertise and coordination between departments, schools and colleges, as well as possible outside non-profit clients.

Project Description
The RIT GLBT Center is the hub of the GLBT Community on campus. The Center comprises an administrative office and a student lounge, both adjacent to each other. The Center also houses a print and video media library which currently holds over two hundred books, thirty movie titles and subscriptions to three premier GLBT and ally magazines. The GLBT Center also works closely with our on-campus student organizations: OUTspoken, RIT Gay Alliance (ritGA), Spectrum and Tangent. Located in the Student Alumni Union 4-A452

The Concept: We are posed with many different names to describe this widespread community of individuals (ie. GLBT, GLBTQ, GLBTQA, etc). The new proposed name, The Q Center, is a way this large community can be represented using one simple, strong, and memorable letter. It is easily recognizable, quick to say, easy to spell, distinct, appropriate, current and fresh, and allows for brandplay.

For the following posters, Caitlin reviewed a large number of surveys done by students and faculty that talked about what they learned through SafeZone Training and by going to The GLBT Center. She selected the quotes that best represented the spirit or her campaign. The names on the surveys were protected and anonymous.
