Concept and Symbolism / Quarter System 506 Stefan Sagmeister Projects
RIT was very fortunate to have Stefan Sagmeister speak as part of the Caroline Werner Gannett Visionary Speaker Series.
In anticipation of his visit, CAD art and design students at all academic levels created solutions to his challenge to "Touch Someone's Heart with Design." My sophomore Typography class collaborated with a freshman level 3D class taught by Roberley Bell to create solutions. Teams of my senior graphic design Concept and Symbolism students worked on this project as well.
During Mr. Sagmeister's visit, I served as his escort for the afternoon to show him the students' solutions. 250 student projects filled the Booth-Gannett Complex, which he said was the best response to this challenge he had to date.
While looking at the work in the display cases,
Mr. Sagmeister responded very positively to a specific project, which he had no idea belonged to a team of my students. He even tweeted about it!!!
Needless to say, I was very excited for and proud
of my students.

The design team for this project felt that the RIT Librarians deserved recognition for their talents and efforts on behalf of RIT students, so they decided to touch their hearts by creating superhero personas relating to the personality and area of expertise of each librarian.

A project done by a team of sophomore Typography students and freshmen 3D students. The lettering was created with everyday objects by children in a day care center with the help of RIT students.
