The LiveAbility Lab is a partnership between RIT and the Al Sigl Community of Agencies, a collaborative network of organizations in Rochester that serves children and adults with special needs. The lab, which is located on Al Sigl’s Wolk Campus, opened in 2018. The goal is to develop a pipeline of accessible technology projects that are conceived at RIT and take root at the LiveAbility Lab on their way to development in the marketplace. 

While he’ll soon step away from the day-to-day at the university to which he has dedicated nearly six decades, R. Roger Remington wants people to know, “I’m not going anywhere.” The Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design and longest-serving faculty member at RIT will retire in May after 57 years at the university.

The annual festival, now in its 13th year, is a showcase day for RIT. But Imagine RIT isn’t just a one-day celebration. Every day, RIT students, faculty and staff are working to pair technology, art and design in ways that move the world forward.

A mural competition held by RIT Libraries has added a little pizazz to two study rooms on the third-floor of Wallace Library. RIT Libraries staff picked College of Art and Design students Nevada Scott’s and Juho Choi’s designs from 24 submissions.

The winning design in this year’s Imagine RIT poster contest was created by Jacqueline Lando, a fourth-year student majoring in new media design. Her design—colorful images sprouting from the mind—was chosen from among 28 entries in the contest.  

Maddy Schoenfeld says that the beauty isn’t in the creation of the piece, but in the experience of the wearer. The fourth-year metals and jewelry design student tries to incorporate this idea into every piece of artwork that she sells at Shop One, the contemporary design shop on campus.

The Finger Lakes Times talks to Kelly Jahn, lecturer in the College of Art and Design, about a project her students are working on to help restore a 19th-century building in Geneva, N.Y.

Instead of having breakfast at Tiffany’s, Kibaek Sung ’19 MFA (metals and jewelry design) got to work with the chefs in the jewelry-crafting kitchen during his co-op with the world-renowned luxury jewelry company.
