Jessamy Comer is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology. She joined RIT in 2012, and she teaches psychology classes ranging from introductory level through graduate level. She has taught in a variety of modalities as well, including traditional in-person courses, online asynchronous courses, and one-on-one senior thesis courses. She is a passionate teacher who believes in fostering student learning through active engagement with the course material. She has contributed her ideas on teaching to RIT faculty through many CTL events. She has presented a talk on active learning for the Teachers on Teaching series, as well as a talk on working with students with social anxiety at the Summer Teaching Institute. She has also hosted teaching circles on active learning, teaching in large courses, challenging student situations, and effective feedback on student work. She has also received several PLIG grants to enhance the active learning activities within her courses. She is excited to work with faculty on their courses as the CTL Faculty Fellow for Humanities and Social Sciences!

Jessamy was awarded the RIT Outstanding Teaching Award for Non-Tenure Track faculty in 2023, and she also was the recipient of the University of Rochester Helen and Vincent Nowlis Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2010. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Baylor University in 2005, and her Master of the Arts in Psychology in 2010 and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology in 2012 from the University of Rochester.
