WXXI’s “Connections” program features Jenn Poggi, assistant professor in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. Poggi will lead a free, public conversation with photojournalist David Butow at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, in RIT City Art Space.

In virtually every art course and studio environment at RIT, technology is integral to the delivery of content and production of work, whether it’s an “ancient” technology like using a hammer and anvil to forge metal or a computer numerical control plasma table to cut metal forms.

A solo exhibition of photographs and video by David Butow, whose new book, Brink, chronicles politics in the United States from the 2016 presidential election through the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, is coming to RIT’s City Art Space.

The story of 2021—told visually in the top images of the year chosen by photo editors at TIME and The New York Times—has multiple connections to RIT’s nationally recognized School of Photographic Arts and Sciences.

For the first time, a collaborative exhibition of works by Deaf artists from two prominent permanent collections will be shown to the public. “Traversing the Boundaries of the Natural and Synthetic Worlds,” a joint exhibit by the Joseph F. and Helen C. Dyer Arts Center at NTID and the Gallaudet University Archives, will run Dec. 23, 2021, through Jan. 15, 2022, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23.

Assistant professor Amy Adrion—whose work has screened at South by Southwest, Sundance, and Tribeca film festival—recently directed and produced videos for an online streaming series featuring actors reading children’s books brought to life through animation.
