The Undergraduate Research Symposium, RIT’s annual showcase of innovative projects, takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 28 and more than 200 students are expected to participate. The event will feature some of the best in undergraduate research ideas and solutions.

Alana Smith, a Rochester Institute of Technology graduate, is among the first Peace Corps volunteers to serve overseas after an unprecedented two-year Peace Corps evacuation from more than 60 countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The students took a 12-week, online class prior to their 11-day visit to the two countries of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in May, to talk with survivors of the 1991-1999 war in the former Yugoslavia region of Europe.

More than 1,500 students from 100 national and international collegiate race teams competed June 2-5 at RIT’s Gordon Field House and the Hogback Hill Motocross site in Palmyra, N.Y. RIT students, alumni, and faculty have had another successful year securing prestigious Fulbright awards to pursue immersive global experiences. Three recent graduates received awards through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for the 2022-2023 academic year and three faculty received Fulbright Scholar Awards.

Maria Morcos ’22 BS/MS (physician assistant) will spend the next academic year conducting a clinical asthma trial at the Royal College of Surgeons in Bahrain. It will be the first asthma clinical trial in the area.
