RIT is spearheading a transformative $7.3 million research hub in collaboration with the University of Rochester. The center will study the lifecycle of microplastics, including its origin as plastic waste, distribution, and movement in the Great Lakes freshwater ecosystem.

The RIT Singers will join members of the local singing group Madrigalia to present a concert dedicated to protecting and sustaining the Earth, and revitalizing nature. Formed in 1975, the chamber choir has collaborated with local and international audiences as well as premiering new works.

Venita D’Angelo, a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice, is working to reduce crime through program evaluation, data analytics, and project management services for area law enforcement, community nonprofits, and other criminal justice professionals.

Joshua Schwartz, a fourth-year chemical engineering student and the president of the American Cancer Society chapter on campus, discusses this year’s Relay For Life. In the past three years, the event has raised $210,000.

RIT will be a contributing partner on a $4.5 million U.S. Department of Energy initiative to improve the operation of grid transmission and distribution systems, including how information about energy resources can be better transmitted securely.

RIT received $1.25 million in funding from the recent appropriations bill to expand its Battery Prototyping Center. The funding will be part of national directions to strengthen the battery ecosystem in the U.S. 

The program, founded in 2008, is part of the NYSP2I’s ongoing efforts to make the state more sustainable for workers, the public, the environment, and the economy through pollution prevention.

Catherine Shannon has joined Rochester Institute of Technology as the new executive director of the RIT and Rochester Regional Health Alliance. As the liaison between the institutions, Shannon will work to facilitate collaborations that enhance the strategic partnership.

To help address the void in research surrounding 3D printing as a tool for display, storage, preservation, conservation, and more, Meredith Noyes received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for a research project to inform decision making.

Cory Merkel, assistant professor of computer engineering at RIT, will represent the university as one of five collegiate partners in the new Center of Neuromorphic Computing under Extreme Environments, also referred to as CONCRETE.
