New economy majors connect with emerging careers
Analytical thinking, complex problem solving, creativity, resiliency, and flexibility are among the top skills needed for emerging careers by 2025. Anticipating these rapid changes in the workplace—further accelerated by lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic—RIT is seizing on the opportunity to guide students to “new economy majors” that are multidisciplinary, transformative, and future-focused.

Pandemic changes academics but standards remain the same
First, RIT was forced to close campus operations in March and transition to alternative learning methods. Then, faculty and staff were tasked with developing a creative academic portfolio of online, blended, and in-person classes for the fall. Now, RIT is preparing for the spring, which will be a mix of best practices from the last year aimed at maintaining the high academic standards for which the university is known.

RIT takes top spot over Stanford, Cal Poly in Collegiate Pentesting Competition
A team of RIT students took first place at the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) international finals Jan. 7-10. This is RIT’s first time winning the competition, which challenges the world’s brightest cybersecurity college students to put their hacking skills to the test.

The world’s best white hat cybersecurity students will be crowned at the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) global finals Jan. 7–10. The event is the culmination of the world’s largest offensive-based collegiate cybersecurity competition and will be run virtually through RIT.

Air Force ROTC student named to prestigious training program
Keegan Evans will take his place this summer among a group of young Air Force officers from around the globe who have been selected for the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program. The RIT Air Force ROTC cadet was selected from among hundreds of ROTC students for one of the U.S. Air Force’s most elite flight training programs.

Tiger Testing Team helped administer thousands of COVID-19 tests at RIT
Thousands of COVID-19 tests were completed on campus for RIT students this semester. And more than 65 RIT staff members volunteered—often with little advance notice—with the Tiger Testing Team to set up testing stations and walk students through the process of sample collection.
