RIT Esports wins Hearthstone Collegiate Championship
Students from RIT Esports bested more than 300 teams from across North America to win the 2019 Hearthstone Collegiate Championship Fall Finals on Dec. 14. The RIT student team took home the top trophy and $6,000 in scholarships for playing the digital card game Hearthstone.

Ridding waterways of microplastics, delivering water to remote villages experiencing drought, and better ways to remove salt from water were just a few of the clean-water research projects recently presented by undergraduate students as part of RIT’s Grand Challenge Scholars program.

Student project delivers solutions for Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence
Undergraduate students from RIT ROC-ed the Project during a local project management competition to increase awareness and volunteer services for Rochester’s M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence. Their solution, “The Common Source,” took top honors recently in the annual ROC the Project competition, a regional challenge for college students.

Macie the therapy dog visits Wallace Library today; featured in student film ‘Mike & Macie’
To help students relax during finals week, Wallace Library is hosting a therapy-dog event from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today. The pup visits have become a regular occurrence on campus. After attending a session, film and animation student Victoria Sebastian made preparing a dog for pet therapy the focus of a class project this fall.

The coaster contest was a thrill ride for RIT’s Theme Park Enthusiasts student group at the annual Ryerson Invitational Thrill Design Competition. For the second time since the competition began, the club won first place overall at the competition.

Student Spotlight: Writing Commons consultant helps other students improve writing skills
Claudia Alant, a fourth-year mechanical engineering student from Niskayuna, N.Y., has worked for the Writing Commons for five semesters. According to Alant, being a peer consultant for the commons is “one of the coolest jobs an undergraduate student can have” on campus.
