Rochester Business Journal highlights Tiffany Panko, director of the Deaf Health Laboratory in the Center for Culture and Language at NTID.

The Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences has a new initiative aimed at increasing its emphasis on diversity at all levels in the college. The GCCIS Diversity Initiatives office will support underrepresented populations, Women in Computing, and diversity and inclusion efforts.

Tiffany Panko, director of the Deaf Health Laboratory in the Center for Culture and Language at NTID, will be among 120 women in STEM personified in life-sized statues that will be on display in Smithsonian gardens and in select Smithsonian museums March 5-27 for the #IfThenSheCan — The Exhibit.

Ekua Quagraine, a second-year international business major from Kansas City, Mo., is the current president of Women in Business. Under her leadership, the organization will resume its annual Skate for a Cause event on Feb. 18, to benefit the Malala Fund.

Scientists from RIT and Cornell University have teamed up to explore cartilage tissue’s unique properties with the hopes of improving osteoarthritis diagnosis and treatment. The team published a new paper in Science Advances outlining their findings.

Drawn to RIT for its unique focus on technology, art, and design, Lindsay ’09 and Andy Mindler ’09 saw new media design as the perfect blend of 3D, motion, and code to fuel their diverse design interests. The couple started dating at RIT in 2007 and married in 2011. After a lifelong interest in clothing design, Chrystel Anne Clasicas has burst onto the fashion scene, starting by selling face masks in 2020 and showing her work at New York Fashion Week only one year later. Now, she’s preparing to appear again at this year’s New York Fashion Week by showing a collection of designs in collaboration with RIT engineers.

Cecilia Alm, an associate professor in RIT’s College of Liberal Arts, was awarded nearly $2 million by the National Science Foundation to lead a team of RIT faculty addressing a lack of diversity in the artificial intelligence research community and gaps in AI curricula.

Chonte’ Martin, Atlanta’s facility management director of operations, started her career 25 years ago after learning electrical work in technical school.
