RIT Croatia's Student Government organized a Community Service Day in Zagreb
This year’s Community Service Day was another heartwarming reminder of how much can be achieved when students lead with purpose, kindness, and a desire to give back. With over 20 years of tradition, Community Service Day at RIT Croatia continues to be a meaningful experience for students in both Dubrovnik and Zagreb, and this year was no exception.
In Zagreb, the Student Government recently organized a special day with children from the Caritas community, combining outdoor fun with creative indoor activities.
“We wanted to give back and make a positive impact beyond our college”, said Toni Katanušić, Vice President of Student Government.
Small acts of kindness make a big difference
The Student Government team met in advance to plan and prepare the event, coordinating everything from logistics and transportation to creating an engaging experience for the kids. When the community day started, it was filled with fun and games at Bundek. Everyone played football, volleyball, badminton, and classic hide and seek, followed by an afternoon of painting, drawing, and board games on campus. It was simple, yet filled with moments that mattered.
“Seeing students and the kids together smile and laugh, that moment made it all worth it”, Toni shared. “It was heartwarming and really meaningful. Just as they learned something from us, we also learned a lot from them”.
The initiative reminded everyone involved that meaningful change doesn’t require a grand gesture. “Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference”, Toni said.
Bringing students together
Events like these do more than bring joy to others — they bring students together around a shared purpose. “They build empathy, connection, and remind us how powerful a community can be”, Toni added.
According to Toni, the feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. “Everyone loved it! People said it was fun, fulfilling, and they can't wait to do it again next year”.
Looking ahead, Student Government wants to continue with similar initiatives, further strengthening its ties with the local community. And for anyone thinking of getting involved, Toni has a simple message: “Just try it! Start small, step by step, and you'll find a way to help that feels right for you”.
