An artist and curator with a 20-year history of highlighting works by artists with disabilities has been named director of the Joseph F. and Helen C. Dyer Arts Center at NTID.

NTID is partnering with the Rochester Red Wings baseball team for the third annual Deaf Culture Night at Frontier Field on Friday, Sept. 16.

A panel of professionals representing all aspects of Deaf education have been named to the advisory board of Project Fast Forward, a program at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Funding for the board was made possible through a grant from Microsoft Corp.

Say Cheese, a pioneering, heartfelt film directed and produced by two RIT students, took home the top prize in the Coca-Cola Refreshing Films program announced during the final night of CinemaCon in Las Vegas late Thursday. The project featured the combined creative efforts of students, faculty, and staff in RIT’s School of Film and Animation and NTID.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced fiscal year 2022 funding he secured that will revitalize Rochester and the Finger Lakes region. Sen. Schumer highlighted significant funding in the amount of $88.5 million that NTID received in the fiscal year 2022 appropriations bill, a $7 million increase over fiscal year 2021, with $3 million of that increase going toward NTID’s Regional STEM Center efforts.

Film and Animation students Anna McClanahan (BFA) and Gabriel Ponte-Fleary (MFA) are finalists in Coca-Cola's Refreshing Films program. They are producing what is thought to be the program's first finalist film dealing with deaf and hard-of-hearing themes.

NTID and The Strong have partnered to celebrate Deaf Awareness Month. On Sunday, March 20, students from NTID’s Department of American Sign Language and Interpreting Education will provide ASL assistance at the museum’s admissions desk and its Skyline Climb high adventure course. And ASL tours of the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden will take place every hour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 

NTID welcomed U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to campus Aug. 23 to announce her recommendation for $89.7 million in funding for the college in Fiscal Year 2022, an $8.2 million increase from Fiscal Year 2021.

RIT has received the “Peace Corps Prep” designation, enabling its students to take certain classes to better prepare them for service in the Peace Corps upon graduation. RIT is the first university in Western New York to receive the designation, and the fifth in the state.

The Rochester Red Wings baseball team are partnering with RIT/NTID and Rochester School for the Deaf to host the second Deaf Culture Day at Frontier Field, on Thursday, Sept. 2.

During her tenure, Lin Hoke made her mark throughout various NTID departments.
