NTID has received approval from the New York State Education Department for a bachelor’s degree program in community development and inclusive leadership. The new program will admit its first students in fall 2022

NTID has announced the appointment of Marlene Mata as a new member of the college’s National Advisory Group. Members of the NTID National Advisory Group, whose appointments are approved by the U.S. Department of Education, advise the NTID president in developing and carrying out policies governing the operation and direction of the college.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf has announced the appointment of Pamela Lloyd-Ogoke of Garner, N.C., as chairperson of the college’s National Advisory Group.

A story written 100 years ago featuring epitaphs from dozens of deceased individuals is finding life this week as Spoon River Anthology premieres Saturday virtually on YouTube for the fall production from NTID.

NTID has announced personnel changes in support of the college’s Antiracism and Social Justice Plan, which is scheduled for release this fall. Alesia Allen has been named assistant vice president for diversity and inclusion; Joseph Hill will serve as assistant dean for ALANA faculty recruitment and retention; Thomastine “Tommie” Sarchet-Maher is assistant dean of ALANA Outreach, Access, and Success; and Peter Hauser has been named assistant dean of research mentoring.

Friends and family of a beloved former staff member at NTID are honoring her memory with a new scholarship. The Stephanie Smith Albert Memorial Endowed Scholarship was created in memory of the college’s first director of Diversity and Inclusion, who passed away in 2018.

Alesia Allen, an alumna and NTID faculty member, has been named NTID Director of Diversity and Inclusion. She begins her new duties July 1.

NTID is one of four international innovators selected to create cost-effective packages of high-quality accessible children’s books in languages children use and understand to serve regions of the world where children have few or no books for preschool or kindergarten.
 

The Memorandum of Understanding will establish student and faculty exchange programs and short- and long-term teaching, learning, research, innovation, discovery and global outreach missions.

The agreement aims to continue and strengthen the relationship between the world’s first and largest technological college for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and the global deaf rights organization.
