Bevier Gallery at RIT hosts a juried exhibit, Exploring Boundaries: Evolutionary Metal through Jan. 23. This example, composed of silver, copper, brass, wood, plaster and porcupine quills, is a piece by Lynn Duggan. The show features art that combines traditional and nontraditional techniques in metalwork.

Oh deer! Watch for deer, fox and other wildlife in the woods and trails surrounding the RIT campus.

Michael Czarnecki, a New York poet and editor, journeyed in a car for 30 days along the length of the Mississippi River, from Lake Itasca, Minn., to Venice, La. Along the way, he visited schools, gave poetry readings, delved into the natural and human history of the region, and wrote a daily newspaper column for the Corning Leader and a daily journal report for 21 schools in three states. He discussed his work and experiences Dec. 19 in Wallace Library.

Jody Lehr shops for handcrafted, one-of-a kind holiday gifts at the annual School for American Crafts student holiday sale. Students’ work includes glass vases, blown glass ornaments, wood bowls, silver jewelry and ceramic wares. The sale continues through Dec. 13, 9-6.

Jen Loomis, a fourth-year software engineering student in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, is the editor in chief of Reporter, RIT’s student-published weekly newsmagazine. Loomis is also active in the Honors Program and played for several years in the RIT Jazz Ensemble.

Retired U.S. Army Major General John Batiste spoke at RIT Dec. 5 about his reflections on Iraq. Batiste commanded the First U.S. Infantry Division in Iraq, and retired from the Army in order to speak out against the war. The event was sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts Honors Program and the Department of Political Science. Here, he signed a sketch, done by an attendee, of him speaking to the packed crowd.
