A $1 million gift from American Packaging Corp. was announced on Oct. 10. The gift will fund the expansion of RIT’s Center for Integrated Plastics. The center will be renamed the American Packaging Center for Plastics & Packaging Innovation.

RIT hosted the 2007 Entrepreneurs Conference during Brick City Homecoming on Oct. 5. This year’s theme, Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the New Economy, emphasized how digital technologies created new industries and changed the nature of competition among industries. David Sifry, founder and chairman of Technorati Inc., gave the keynote address.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak attended the 10th annual Brick City Homecoming weekend as the Horton Distinguished Speaker. After his talk, Wozniak signed his autobiography (iWoz), MacBooks, iPhones and iPods.

Rhythm and blues performer Rihanna kicked off Brick City Homecoming’s entertainment in the Gordon Field House Oct. 5. Rihanna, who recently released her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, topped the charts with her lead single, Umbrella, which was a collaboration with rap superstar Jay-Z.

Online performance artist, humorist, blogger and social media critic Ze Frank visited Rochester Institute of Technology as part of the Caroline Werner Gannett Project and lecture series, “Visionaries in Motion” on Oct. 3.

Rochester Institute of Technology hosted Dominican Republic President Leonel Antonio Fernández Reyna and members of his cabinet Sept. 29. The dignitaries toured Wallace Memorial Library, Kate Gleason College of Engineering, Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, and the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies. The Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services hosted the largest career fair in the history of RIT on Sept. 26. Over 225 employers attended this event and many employers remained on campus to interview candidates on Thursday, Sept.27.

The E. Philip Saunders College of Business hosted a fall picnic on Sept. 25. The event included a celebration of the new courtyard with the attendence of E. Philip Saunders.

Tau Kappa Epsilon held its annual fundraiser for Alzhiemer’s Relief on Sept 25 with an appearance by Billy Carwile, mime artist. Billy will perform again on Sept. 27 in the Infinity Quad.
