    A $1 million gift from American Packaging Corp. was announced on Oct. 10. The gift will fund the expansion of RIT’s Center for Integrated Plastics. The center will be renamed the American Packaging Center for Plastics & Packaging Innovation.

    RIT hosted the 2007 Entrepreneurs Conference during Brick City Homecoming on Oct. 5. This year’s theme, Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the New Economy, emphasized how digital technologies created new industries and changed the nature of competition among industries. David Sifry, founder and chairman of Technorati Inc., gave the keynote address.

    Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak attended the 10th annual Brick City Homecoming weekend as the Horton Distinguished Speaker. After his talk, Wozniak signed his autobiography (iWoz), MacBooks, iPhones and iPods.

    Rhythm and blues performer Rihanna kicked off Brick City Homecoming’s entertainment in the Gordon Field House Oct. 5. Rihanna, who recently released her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, topped the charts with her lead single, Umbrella, which was a collaboration with rap superstar Jay-Z.
