How do marketing strategies differ between a $10 bottle of wine and a $30 bottle? It’s among the questions Ashok Robin is exploring in his Wine Management class, offered this quarter to MBA students in the E. Philips College of Business. The class examines unique characteristics of the wine industry, including cultural issues surrounding wine consumption. In addition to his personal interest in wine, Robin says upstate New York’s growing prominence within the industry is among the motivating factors for introducing the course.

Researchers in the Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation focus on computational gravitational physics and astrophysics. In 2005, Manuela Campanelli, director, left, and her team were one of two groups of scientists credited with simulating the merger of two black holes on a supercomputer according to Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity for strong field gravity.

RIT researchers and students are collaborating with Amberwave Systems to develop new technologies for the semiconductor industry. Their research, funded by the National Science foundation, could ultimately enhance the speed and quality of a host of electronic devices.

Michael Mulvaney was one of the students who took advantage of RIT’s new Sophomore Bootcamp program, a three-day intensive student-success retreat that took place during orientation week. Offered by RIT’s First-Year Enrichment program, the bootcamp aimed to support student transition into sophomore year through a series of talks and seminars, along with team-building activities such as the wall climb at the Red Barn.

The wing will house the Department of Computer Engineering, the Brinkman Machine Tools and Manufacturing Laboratory and space for student projects through the college's multidisciplinary senior design program.

The RIT campus is alive with throngs of students walking to and from classes. The fall quarter began September 3.

The RIT Library hosted an Open House on Aug. 31 for the RIT community and newcomers to campus. There was live music by The U. S. Kings, an interactive craft project and a guest DJ booth. Tours were offered as well as a plethora of decadent treats.

RIT President Bill Destler, who joined the university this summer as its ninth president, addresses the campus community for the first time on August 30.
