    Left, Kaityln Seamans, a second-year psychology major from Philadelphia, Pa., pulls a tire with her teammate Amanda Hughes, a fourth-year criminal justice major from Brockport, N.Y. The students participated in FreezeFest’s Winter Warrior, a 12-part obstacle course to test strength, conditioning and teamwork. Proceeds go to Veterans Outreach of Rochester. The event is sponsored by Phi Kappa Psi and Sigma Chi.

    Roman Yampolskiy ’04 (computer science) was one of three “difference makers” in the Artificial Intelligence community who spoke to students, faculty and staff about the future of AI as part of RIT’s Move 78 Retreat. The associate professor of computer engineering and computer science at the University of Louisville is one of the top researchers in AI safety and cybersecurity. More than 200 campus participants attended the retreat to learn more about AI, neuromorphic computing, machine learning and cognitive technologies in an effort to shape what RIT’s role could be in these exciting, emerging fields.

    Henry Huang, left, a third-year physics and accounting student from Buffalo, N.Y., received information from Stephen Esposito, program coordinator at 13thirty Cancer Connect. The organization is directed at supporting teens and young adults with cancer. Nearly 30 Rochester agencies had representatives to talk to about volunteer opportunities at the Community Service Fair on Feb. 16.

The winter festival includes a concert by RIT President Bill Destler, entertainment by comedian T.J. Miller, an ice sculpture demonstration, food and more. RIT's eighth annual FreezeFest is Feb. 16-19.

    Today is Thank a Giver (TAG) Day, an effort to highlight the importance of donor contributions to the RIT experience. Red tags have been placed on things around campus that were made possible through gifts to RIT. Donor appreciation activities will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge and will include writing thank you notes and posting thank you selfies to social media using the hashtag #RITTAGDAY. T-shirts will be up for grabs for students who participate.

    Fifth-year mechanical engineering technology student Kyle Blakely from Silver Spring, Md., left, and Rebecca Coronel, first-year industrial engineering student from Ringwood, N.J., filled up Valentine gift bags at Beanz. RIT College Activities Board and Center for Residence Life hosted a Valentine’s Day goodie bag assembly table with candy, flowers and cards. The bags could then be delivered in dorms or taken home.

    From left, Boy Scouts Owen Warner and Thomas Jordan learned basic business management tools in a class to earn a merit badge on Feb. 11. RIT’s Alpha Phi Omega chapter invited Boy Scouts from the region to participate in a day of workshops to earn multiple merit badges. More than 400 Boy Scouts earned more than 800 badges during the Merit Badge University event.

    RIT professor emeritus Dane Gordon gave a poetry reading for his book Magic Light Feb. 9 at the Cary Graphic Arts Collection in The Wallace Center. Gordon taught philosophy at RIT for more than 35 years.

RIT’s Better Me Wellness Program is offering free blood pressure tests at various locations on campus for the month of February, which is American Heart Month. The remaining dates and locations are noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 and 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Campus Center Bamboo Room.
