Provide direct services to assist students, families, outside agencies and
staff in the areas of vocational  evaluation, transition planning, employment
skills development and post secondary education planning.

SUPERVISOR: Secondary Transition Coordinator

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with a team to develop transition plans and attend IEP meetings for
students.
Develops student internship placements on and off campus.
Creates postings for all internship opportunities.
Reaches out to local businesses for internship possibilities.
Creates student materials using technology.
Transports students to and from the internship sites.
Provides job training on the internship site and communicate regularly with
the employers.
Assists students, as needed, in the acquisition of basic employment skills.
Meet regularly with students to obtain feedback of the internship sites.
Assists students, as needed, in the acquisition of  post-secondary
programming.
Serves as a liaison between community transition agencies and The Learning
Center.
Represents The Learning Center at national meetings and conferences on
transition services for Deaf youth.
Maintains professional competence through in-service, workshops, coursework
and other professional development activities.
Meet weekly with the Transition Coordinator to discuss needs, issues,
concerns and highlights.
Assists with Career Fair and other Transition events.
Assists the Job Coach in refining the internship protocol for students
entering the work place on/off campus.

**May be required to drive students and additional driving responsibilities
as needed.

Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Deaf Education or related field

• Experience working with high school deaf and hard of hearing students in
an educational setting

• Experience in transition planning and vocational assessment of deaf
students.

• Experience in post-secondary educational planning

• Prior experience working with children preferred

• Ability to accept and constructively use feedback and suggestions
regarding job responsibilities and performance

• Verbal and written communication skills are at sufficient level to ensure
effective communication

• Interpersonal skills developed to a level which will allow smooth
cooperation at all levels within the agency

• A minimum of conversational fluency in American Sign Language required,
with native, or near-native ASL fluency preferred

• Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team
