TITLE: Child and Family Therapist

POSITION TYPE: Full Time – Permanent (Non - Union)

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday: 9:00am to 5:00pm (flexibility required)

REPORTS TO: Clinical Lead, PAH! Program

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the PAH! Clinical Lead the Child and Family Therapist provides a range of clinical services, service coordination, advocacy and consultation for Deaf and hard of hearing children and youth (18 years and under, and their families); and hearing children and youth (18 years and under, and their deaf parents) presenting with mental health concerns.

PRIMARY DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS
• Provide a range of clinical services (individual, family, and group) according to client need
• Ability to conduct psychological testing under supervision with our Clinical Consultant
• Provide service coordination, liaison, and service planning with community resources
• Participate in service provision and service reviews within the PAH! program as required
• Participate in developing and maintaining client team meetings as required
• Provide outreach to children, youth and families, as needed, in order to facilitate engagement in services
• Advocate on behalf of youth and families and provide crisis intervention as required
• Participate in case presentations and supervision (meetings and observation of work) on a regular basis
• Provide and assist with building service coordination structures with partners schools, agencies, child welfare, community health services within the deaf and hearing communities
• Organize and participate in educational seminars, workshops, and training for children youth, families, service providers, and staff, where need, interest and ability exist
• Provide, where appropriate, consultation services to individuals, families, staff, and other service providers regarding the issues, concerns and needs of deaf children, youth and families
• Demonstrate sound judgement related to the provision of mental health and services for deaf children, youth and their families and Hearing children and youth and their Deaf parents
• Demonstrate clinical judgement related to Deaf children, youth and families and Hearing children and youth and their Deaf parent in high risk circumstances to ensure appropriate safety plans are arranged
• Supervise students of allied health care disciplines.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
• M.A. in Psychology or Counselling Psychology and minimum three (3) years of experience working in a clinical setting with individuals with mental health needs, challenging behaviours and/or dual diagnosis
• Registered with the Ontario College of Social workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario or equivalent and committed to ongoing professional development
• Knowledge and experience working within the Deaf community and fluency in ASL
• Knowledge of ASIST or Safe Talk an asset
• Committed to ongoing professional development
• Knowledge, skills and professional expertise to provide direct clinical services to children, youth and families
• Thorough understanding of systems and their impact on youth and families
• Demonstrated creative problem solving abilities, flexibility and adaptation to change
• Strong written skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with youth, staff, and colleagues, and cross sector service partners
• Proven success in working alongside, or as part of a clinical treatment team
• Possess sound judgement, creativity, initiative and integrity, and ability to set consistent and appropriate limits
• Demonstrated experience in computer literacy (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Caseworks)
• Committed to helping youth within an Interdisciplinary Team using individual and group processes
• Mature and professional judgement in conflictual and high intensity situations
• Full G Ontario Driver’s license with a clean driving record
• French language/LSQ an asset
