Job Title: Director of Communications
Job Type: Permanent
Job Description:
The purpose of this position is to set and guide the strategy for all
communications activities and dissemination of resources, in alignment with
the mission of NDC. The Communications Director will lead strategic planning
and implementation of communications efforts to reach targeted NDC
stakeholders including deaf people and their families, educators, state
agencies, business owners, high schools, colleges and postsecondary training
programs, policy makers, and national organizations. Current communications
activities include newsletters, newsfeed posts, videos, annual reports,
social media activity, virtual events, conferences, and print materials.

This hire will work closely with NDC leadership on strategic planning,
liaison with staff about key deliverables and dissemination, and supervise
team members and consultants. Job responsibilities include developing
strategic communication plans, identifying opportunities for increased
stakeholder engagement, ensuring implementation of accessibility best
practices, optimizing website presence, engaging in media outreach,
overseeing social media engagement, managing staff and consultants,
overseeing project workflows, evaluating communications analytics, and
managing digital content including videos, images, graphics, and copy. The
hire must demonstrate previous experience working with deaf communities,
advancing equity through communications work, and developing strategic
communication plans.

This is a 40h/week, full time position with the University of Texas, with all
the benefits commensurate with the position. This will primarily be a remote
position, with the possibility of occasional travel to, or periodic work in,
the central Austin office.



Requirements:
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications,
journalism, or a related field. Five or more years of experience working in
communications and marketing. Demonstrated experience working with deaf
communities as a target audience for communications efforts. Demonstrated
commitment to advancing equity through communications work and contributing
to an inclusive working and learning environment. Excellent written
communication skills and knowledge of, or willingness to learn, American Sign
Language.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications: Seven or more years of experience working in
communications and marketing. Demonstrated experience with disseminating
complex content through the use of video, copywriting, and images. Management
and supervisory experience. Fluency in American Sign Language.
