Overview: Signed By Stories (SBS) uses peer support and education through a variety of social media and web-based innovations to advance the recovery of deaf and hard of hearing people searching for mental health care and support. Storytelling, a key aspect of Deaf culture, creates a space for peer-to-peer healing. SBS offers a platform for deaf people to tell their mental health stories. These stories are used to spread education and awareness about how deaf people have struggled to make informed decisions and receive appropriate care for their mental health due to communication access barriers. In addition to this peer support, Signed By Stories aims to develop a mental health education resource hub accessible to all deaf people. Signed By Stories is looking for 3-5 individuals who are…
● Prepared to serve as the youth faces and leaders of Signed By Stories
● Motivated, creative, and passionate about mental health!
● Experienced with social media and full of new ideas for content (specifically for Instagram and TikTok platforms)
● Ready to bring their ideas, insight, and leadership to the team
● Driven to advocate for better mental health service access and treatment for deaf and hard of hearing people
● Ready to dedicate 10-15 hours a week to this important cause
● Comfortable with individually advocating for mental health issues and other mental health-related issues

Key Responsibilities:

● Support the SBS Executive Director and the advisory board in determining the organization’s advocacy goals and priorities
● Assist the team in coming up with innovative ideas for spreading awareness through all SBS social media and web-based platforms
● Assist in the planning of virtual and in-person events for fundraising, awareness, activism and more!
● Assist in creating and executing a social media strategy for the organization’s storytelling component
● Assist in outreach to external partners and community-led organizations for the purpose of fundraising, relationship building, and community-based learning
● Work closely with the SBS Social Media Strategist on content creation and marketing

● Age 18 or older
● An interest in mental health and a curiosity for learning how to make change happen!
● Good organizational skills and attention to detail
● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
● Access to a computer is required
● Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
● Proficiency in meeting and communicating over Zoom
● Proficiency with social media marketing and management (specifically Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube platforms)
● Basic familiarity with mental health (an undergraduate background in Psychology is preferred but not required)

Skills:
● Proficiency in American Sign Language
● Skilled in all Microsoft Office applications
● Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
● Good communication skills
● Excellent social media skills (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok platforms)
● Basic proficiency in written English (flexible)

Work Environment:
● This role will require the use of your own laptop/PC
● This position is remote with the option of being based in Washington, D.C.
● This role is unpaid but qualifies as an opportunity to earn CEUs and volunteer hours
