ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Regional Director, the Family Outreach Advocate will:

Provide support, information and referrals for families with deaf or hard of hearing infants through 12th
Teach ASL to families.
Assist with the educational process and work with families on how to advocate in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and/or Individual Educational Plan (IEP) processes.
Provide group and individual advocacy.
Develop relationships and establish regional resource networks.
Promote services through video, print, postings and in-person at selected conferences.
Educate families about the deaf and hard-of-hearing community and various laws and programs benefiting and protecting the rights of deaf persons.
Assist with consumer workshops, trainings for service providers and community events;
Record statistics on a daily basis related to the provision of services.
Perform such tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate degree, two years related experience and fluency in ASL required.
Able to assess and adapt sign styles to fit the communication needs of the individual who may be deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or recently deafened.
Must be able to work with families with deaf and hard of hearing children (infancy-12th grade).
Background knowledge of various laws and programs benefiting and protecting the rights of deaf and hard of hearing persons, such as Dept. of Rehabilitation regulations and Social Security policies, ADA, etc.
Ability to handle personal details, data and other private information. Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to perform professionally. Punctuality and reliability are a must.
Demonstrated efficiency with Microsoft Office programs is required.
Must be flexible in working remotely from home and in the office until employees return to full-time office schedule.
Be detail-oriented with strong organizational and written communication skills. Must prioritize and handle multiple tasks, sometimes with competing deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Must maintain a cooperative relationship with consumers, co-employees, directors, and the CEO.
Must have reliable transportation, maintain up-to-date auto insurance and be willing to drive to outreach offices as needed.
