In this position, you will serve as a Food Service Worker providing food and beverage preparation and service. Typical assignments include:

Preparing simple foods and beverages following portioning guidelines.
Ensuring that proper holding temperatures are maintained on all ready-to-serve hot and cold foods, adhering to all appropriate food safety practices, rules and guidelines, including utilizing the temperature danger zone to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold.
Following established Standard Operating Procedures according to established recipes, including maintaining time and temperature logs for their assigned areas.
Ensuring proper storage of food and supplies including rotation of inventory (FIFO Method); ensuring that food is covered, dated and stored properly using industry standard and work unit practices, and is easily accessible; determining appropriate storage areas, and ensures that food is promptly carried to the appropriate storage location.

Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.

All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground.

Qualifications
The qualification requirements listed below must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standard. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often causes uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted and vented, but is usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. The incumbent is regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration and and/or freezer units. Temperatures range from -10 to 80 degrees on a daily basis. Also exposed to extreme weather during Food Cart Operations in the winter months.

Physical Effort: Will be required to perform heavy lifting and moving and hard work such as scouring and scrubbing large utensils, pots and pans. Moving and unloading heavy carts and pallets. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds to load and unload Food Service Delivery vehicles. Standing or walking for long periods of time.
