The Department of Language Science is seeking a lecturer to teach a three-quarter sequence on American Sign Language as well as a one-quarter course on the structure of signed languages for non-signers. All courses would be offered annually. The three-quarter sequence courses are intended to satisfy UC Irvine’s foreign language requirement. Qualified applicants will be skilled (preferably native) signers of American Sign Language with strong teaching credentials, training in linguistics, and with a strong background in Deaf culture. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in linguistics or a related discipline.

The review process will begin on September 18, 2023, and screening will continue until positions are filled, with a final closing date of December 31, 2023. Initial course offerings could be as early as January 2024 but may not commence until Fall 2024.
