This is a position with the Planning Yard DDG 51 Engineering team. This position provides Technical Point of Contact and Systems Engineering for the DDG 51 Class in-service DDGs. The successful candidate will report to the Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) Engineering Group for duties.
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serve as Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for assigned HM&E (Hull, Mechanical and Electrical) alterations aboard DDG 51 Class. The successful candidate will be expected to work several HM&E assigned ship alterations as TPOC.
Work with various Navy customers and other contractors in the development of technical requirements and resolution of issues as they develop.
Brief the ship check teams to ensure all applicable guidance is followed: accompany the design team on selected ship checks.
Provide technical support for Ship Installation Design (SID) development.
Write/review Ship Change Documents (SCDs).
Develop ROM estimates for emergent Design and Engineering work.
Assist the Engineering Team and department in improving Engineering quality and processes.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
High School Diploma / GED (required)
Electrical/electronic apprenticeship graduate (preferred)
Electrical/electronic designer with minimum 5 years’ experience (preferred)
A.S. in Electronics or other STEM Area (preferred)
Design leadership experience (preferred)
Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret equipment specifications, drawings, system diagrams, schematics, and other technical documentation (required)
Required/Preferred Experience
DDG 51 experience required.
Planning Yard experience desired.
Ability to execute multiple simultaneous projects required.
Ability to work with preliminary GFI/ VFI during early design development.
Must have flexibility to work in fast paced environment under pressure of changing and often conflicting priorities.
Strong organizational and research skills and the ability to pay attention to detail is required.
Excellent verbal, written communication and customer relation skills required.
Familiarity with databases and Microsoft products.
Self-motivated and desire to contribute in a team environment required. Must be able to self-manage, and effectively manage workload priorities.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to travel up to several weeks at a time to support ship checks in Navy home ports.
Security Clearance, or capability to obtain one.
This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
