Job Description

Johns Hopkins University is conducting a nationwide search for an experienced, nationally certified American Sign Language (ASL) / English Interpreter to serve as the lead interpreter on a team of designated interpreters for a faculty member in the Department of Cognitive Science. They will be responsible for daily sign language transliterating services and collaboratively supporting and teaming with other interpreters.
- Oversee and collaborate with a high-performing pool of designated interpreters.
- Anticipate the needs of the faculty member and manage the interpreter coverage schedule.
- Grow the team of interpreters through recruitment and hiring.
- Provide daily transliteration services at meetings, talks, classes, and other functions.
- Review materials in preparation for a variety of interpreted events.
- Engage in on-the-job training (professional development opportunities).
- Opportunities to travel.
- Salary: $72,600 - $127,000, commensurate with experience

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- American Sign Language and English fluency
- Four years of related interpreting experience preferably in post-secondary settings.

Competitive applicants will have eight or more years of interpreting experience in post-secondary settings; experience with professional development and mentoring of ASL interpreters; and a graduate degree in psycholinguistics, linguistics, cognitive science, computer science, or a related field.
