Job Description:
Child Development Services of Fremont County is seeking a dynamic American
Sign Language Interpreter for the remainder of the Spring 2025 semester.
Travel is required in the Fremont County area.

Child Development Services is located in south-central Fremont County,
Wyoming with centers in both Lander and Riverton, Wyoming. Our area is dubbed
Wind River Country and offers an excellent quality of life for all ages. If
you love the great outdoors these communities offer amazing opportunities
such as: hiking, back country and Nordic skiing, camping, world famous rock
climbing locations as well as close access to hunting and fishing in some of
the most rugged mountains in the lower 48. There’s no place like Boysen
State Park and Sinks Canyon State Park to cool off and enjoy the outdoors
during the heat of summer and the fishing is great all year round. Riverton
and Lander have both been named as two of the Best Small Towns to live in in
the United States. Wyoming also boast no state income tax.
Wage Range $20-$30 per hour
Non-exempt/hourly position

JOB  SUMMARY:

The American Sign Language Interpreter facilitates communication between
hearing and deaf or hard of hearing individuals in classrooms and meetings
using American Sign Language or other manual sign system; serves as a liaison
between deaf or hard of hearing students, hearing students and instructors;
and performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides sign-language interpreter services in preschool classroom settings.

Interprets lessons, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word
situations using American Sign Language or other manual sign system
appropriate for the language and the cultural background of deaf or hard of
hearing students and staff.

Assists in creating interpreter schedules to cover all student classes
requiring services.

Receives request for accommodations and documents, determines services
needed, and coordinates services for deaf or hard of hearing.

Ensures appropriate intake, advising, retention and follow-up services for
deaf or hard of hearing students.

Assists in the collection and preparation of documents, including Brailling,
for students with disabilities.

Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging trends and new legislation
relating to Sign Language/Interpreting functional area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the
following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or
pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching,

and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job
requires 30% sitting, 35% walking,

35% standing. The job is performed under indoor moderate temperature and in a
generally hazard free environment.

Pre-employment testing is required for all CDSFC positions. The Drug and
Alcohol Free Workplace Safety Policy is available from the Human Resources
office.



Requirements:
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.

An Associate's degree from an accredited college is preferred.

To (2) years of experience working in sign language or interpreting
functional areas in an educational setting is preferred.

American Sign Language (ASL) certification, through the Registry of
Interpreters for the Deaf: National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or
Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) Certification.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Ability to accurately interpret spoken language to sign language and
interpret sign to spoken language for classes; follow and give oral and
written directions; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse
population; maintain cooperative working relationships. Ability to establish
and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define
problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and
effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or
boards of directors. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints
from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Knowledge of American Sign Language or other sign system used by students;
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct; technical
signs or specialized vocabulary used in the courses assigned; deaf culture,
local deaf community, and resources for the deaf; specialized equipment for
the deaf and hard of hearing (such as TTY/VP).

Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills;
ability to work independently.

Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing
multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records..
Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and
presentation software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain
records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
