Software Engineering Intern
Where is your hometown?
Lenexa, Kansas
What was your degree program at RIT/NTID?
BS Software Engineering
What was your graduation date from RIT/NTID?
Expected to graduate in Fall 2023
Where are you currently employed for your co-op or internship, and what is your job title?
I am working for Amplify based in Buffalo, NY in a double-block co-op for Spring and Summer 2022 as a Software Engineering Intern.
What are your work responsibilities?
I have been contributing to my team's projects in various areas. I am currently working on updating our company’s global navigation using ReactJS and Redux for my team's software applications. The application contains multiple online assessments to improve students' reading comprehension.
How does your co-op or internship relate to your degree from RIT/NTID?
I learned agile methodology to develop and maintain projects at RIT, and on my co-op at Amplify, my team uses the same approach. With this approach, I participate in various meetings to update my progress and listen to my team sharing its progress with stakeholders. I sometimes have to communicate with people in the business department to understand what they expect from the final results, and then I have to use my programming skills to update the global navigation and ensure that it functions as expected.
Do you have any advice for any current students attending RIT/NTID?
I highly encourage any current students to get as many resources as they can to increase their chance of securing a co-op. When they have no work/internship experience, it can be pretty tough to secure a full-time job, but don't ever give up. Asking for help from your co-op adviser is highly recommended.
