Where are you currently employed for your co-op or internship, and what is your job title?
I started with Collins Aerospace this Summer 2023, as a Service Management Analyst Intern.
What are your work responsibilities?
My primary responsibilities involve working closely with the Business Operations sector as my Project Scope is IT management assets. My day-to-day tasks include facilitating meetings, sharing meeting minutes, reviewing, and auditing tickets to ensure adherence to processes, handling ticket queues and request approvals, as well as documenting and tracking improvement plans to reduce ticket backlog. Additionally, I am responsible for reporting on metrics and key performance indicators to track progress and identify areas for further improvement.
How does your co-op or internship relate to your degree from RIT/NTID?
I’m interested in operations and quality improvement, and the project management field; my course actually gave me a clear roadmap that is relevant for the industrial skills and competencies to advance my career. Courses such as Project Management, Lean Six Sigma, Accounting for Decision-makers, and Operations and SCM have helped me better understand business operations and their day-to-day activities, with the help of practical exposure as well.
Do you have any advice for any current students attending RIT/NTID?
My advice to current students at RIT/NTID would be to avoid excessive stress and also, explore all aspects of college life, embracing the complete experience from academics to personal hobbies. Don't limit yourself to just academic success and job hunting, as these are only parts of the journey, and you may later regret missing out on cherished memories. Regarding job hunting, identify your interests and desired field, and proactively develop the necessary skills and network connections using resources like the RIT alumni portal, LinkedIn, and Career Connect. Cultivate a diverse network, as networking is a critical skill for successful job searching. RIT provides ample resources for individual growth, so make the most of them. Finally, work hard and prioritize your mental and physical well-being.
