Support RADSCC and TRIPOD

The RADSCC is a catalyst for promoting open dialogue and communication among Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing people on campus and in the Rochester community. RIT is the only hearing univeristy in the world that supports a place like the RADSCC on its campus.

Your contribution to the RIT ASL and Deaf Studies Community Center will support funding for various activities, purchasing of art work, educational materials, digital media, equipment, and travel expenses and honoraria for presenters. More importantly, your contribution will promote our commitment to a community where Deaf and hearing students, faculty, staff, and families work, study, and interact among each other with open, clear, and respectful communication.

TRIPOD Archives

In 1982, parents, educators, and community leaders established TRIPOD, an innovative educational program for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing youth and their families. Serving students from birth through high school and incorporating team-teaching and full co-enrollment, as well as including deaf individuals at all levels of operation, the TRIPOD model had a major impact on deaf education reform. TRIPOD demonstrated that by changing the learning environment, students could achieve at their full potential.

To allow others the opportunity to learn from, replicate, and build on the successful TRIPOD model, NTID has acquired the TRIPOD Archive. This archive, consisting of videos, parenting materials, curricula, academic presentations, fundraising documents, governance guidelines, and more, will be housed at the RIT Archives in the Wallace Center and at the RADSCC on the RIT campus. It will be made available for individuals to study either in person or remotely via an online catalogue.

Lessons learned from the creation of TRIPOD will inspire future innovations in education needed to meet the needs of today's complex, rapidly changing environment. The TRIPOD Archive at NTID will ensure the story of this program continues to be told, benefitting many future generations of deaf youth.

Your contribution to the TRIPOD Archive will enable us to create an online database of the materials, produce video interviews of key participants, mount special exhibitions, and, most important, conduct professional outreach to schools across the country.
