The Innovative Maker and Learning Complex will be a building like no other on the RIT campus, and an alumnus who is helping make it possible wants RIT students to give it a name to remember. A contest to name the building is for current RIT undergraduate and graduate students in good standing. Deadline for submission is March 13. Voting will begin March 18.

While COVID-19 remains a global concern, RIT is doing “far better than other colleges and universities” across the nation, RIT President David Munson said last week in a live radio interview. Weekly testing is yielding one positive case out of every 1,000 RIT students tested, and there has not been a single case of viral transmission inside campus classrooms dating back to August.

In an effort to do everything possible to deliver a festival this summer, the producers of the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival are pleased to announce that planning is underway to present the festival’s 19th edition this year on the RIT campus. 

RIT appointed two members—both with connections to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community—to its Board of Trustees.

Outdoor ice skating, Dr. Munson’s Performing Arts Challenge, giveaways, hot chocolate, and a virtual escape room are some of the activities planned for this year’s FreezeFest beginning Feb. 4 on the RIT campus.

2020 threw the book at us—a global pandemic, racial unrest, economic uncertainty, a fierce political battle for leadership of our nation. I’m proud to say RIT faced it all head on, pulling together our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees who guided us through—and eventually will guide us out of—these turbulent times.

Congress has come to a bi-partisan agreement on another round of coronavirus relief funding that will benefit higher education institutions and RIT students, as well as many other individuals and businesses that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Debbie Stendardi, who retires as vice president of Government and Community Relations at the end of the year, leaves an indelible mark on both RIT and the Greater Rochester region—both of which she has advanced considerably through her advocacy efforts for more than four decades. In a far-ranging interview, the unassuming Stendardi reflected on her longtime career and widespread impact.

RIT President David Munson said voluntary, free COVID-19 testing will be made available to a few thousand students prior to their departure for Thanksgiving break to help prevent the possible spread of the virus.
